Hey y’all I have a 79 and the power antenna won’t quit running unless I disconnect the battery. I’m thinking the switch that should shut it off when the antenna is all the way down is any working, also the antenna does not go up or down even though the motor is running but I can easily pull it up and down so I think I will need a new motor but I wanted to ask. Thanks in advance
If you search power antenna you'll find lots of discussion on the topic..my guess is the power antenna relay under the driver's console. the antenna wiring connects through the radio as well so that when the radio is on/off the antenna responds likewise, all of which goes through the relay. Likely the nylon cable in the antenna assembly broke. The cable can be replaced but they typically don't last long. There is a wire connection behind the driver's seat near the LR rear speaker where you can disconnect the power to the motor there and stop it from running. Replacing the cable is not very difficult. I replaced the nylon cable with plastic-coated stainless-steel cable to eliminate the nylon cable. Is your antenna motor assembly original to the car?
I had the same problem with my '78 Corvette. I disconnected the wire near Lefr Rear speaker to stop it from running and draining battery.
Do yourself a favor, skip trying to repair the antenna. They are prone to problems. Get a FM usb adapter for the cigarette lighter and use a flash drive or ipod for music, that's what I did to play music through the OEM speakers. About $15-20
There's a C & S Corvettes video with Lyle about this on youtube.
