Hi y'all! New Corvette owner here. I just bought a '79. It's in good shape overall. The original seatbelts definitely need to be replaced though. The retractor behind your shoulder is underneath plastic trim. How do I get to the retractor without damaging the plastic to remove and replace the belts?
On the retractor cover on my 77 there are 2 Phillips head screws. Remove the screws.
Thanks. I should have looked at it closer before I asked a silly question. I was thinking the trim pieces would be old, brittle plastic snapped together, rather than being held on by screws. There are 8 screws holding the retractor cover piece and the adjacent corner piece on my '79. I was able to straighten and adjust the retractor and belt after getting the cover off. I'll probably replace them anyway, since they're who knows how old, but I got it fixed and working again.
