I didn't realize at the time that I was purchasing and icon!
Back in 1969/1970 I was rebuilding my 1961 Corvette as an 18 year old kid. When it came to replacing the seized 283 - I went over to my local Chevrolet dealer, Baldwin Chevrolet on Long Island and purchased over this counter this 1970 LT1 long bock. The only thing it was missing was the carburetor... all for $650.00!
Shown is the blurred original picture and an AI enhanced picture for clarity, The orange valve cover plug is just that - a temp plug but both the plug, oil fill cap and thermostat housing came out weird in the AI photo.
With this LT1 my 61 Corvette was a real terror on the street on Sunrise Highway! Ahh ... those days were fun!

I guess in today's AI world - nothing is believed anymore ..
What I knew of conventional image restoration, your second picture isn't very likely by any mathematical method I knew of. The text information on the Scott's bag for instance just isn't enough to get to the second picture.
my mistake to try to clean up the original picture with AI .. original pictures are there to share my experience in 1970. Hopefully enjoyable!
Love seeing the freshly uncrated photo... the water pump snout had a tube installed over the end during painting, and the timing tab had a piece of tape over it as well. I noticed on the hanging photo with the front engine mount on the manifolds are off..
Do you still have the exhaust manifolds you removed to fit the Corvette manifolds? Those exhaust manifolds are for a 70 - 72 Z28 and the pass side one is often cracked.
A local guy at Cars and Coffee has a 32 Ford 3 window coupe with a - 65 Fuelie engine, which the owner bought for $650 in 1965. Complete assembly Fuelie unit to the pan. I like Deuce coupes, give it a Fuelie and 3 pedals... HEAVEN!
firstgenaddict - Those photos were taken in 1970 so those exhaust manifolds are long gone! You are correct in observing that in order to install that LT1 in my 1961 Corvette - I had to add the front C1 engine mount and use C1 appropriate exhaust manifolds. In my case I first used the stock 283 cast exhaust manifolds and stock off road exhaust - later I went to a custom tube headers to 67 side exhaust system hidden under the rockers exiting just ahead of the rear tires.

Sunrise Highway! Baldwin Chevrolet! Grew up in Whitestone, Queens and would ride my bike all the way to Baldwin to go by Baldwin Chevrolet and, of course, Motion Performance because of the features I read in CARS magazine. Incredible times. Young guys have no idea what they missed!
I find it hysterical that AI thinks the harmonic balancer on an LT-1 should be ribbed for a serpentine belt.
It just doesn't know any better, that's just like a young'un!
But what I like best are the hairstyles.
Now THOSE are true vintage! LOL

You rode a bicycle from Whitestone to Baldwin? And lived?
Sunrise Highway, yeah I lived in Seaford at that time, ton of fun going streetlight to street light. We used to sneak on the Oysterbay expressway when they were building it... Anyone remember Sunrise Village? I worked there and made more on a Saturday night than some did all week, and don't tell me there is no mob....lol
60
Remember BAST chevy?

Yes they were, the music, concerts in the city, Shea Stadium, Jones beach, and forgiving Police... I sometimes tell stories with younger guys around and I know they think I'm full of it... lol
Amazingly, I did live through it. Probably a 40 mile ride round trip...but we were going to mecca (Motion)...or at least that's what HP CARS magazine told us and as car crazed young guys, we just had to go see it. Turns out it was a rather big garage, really. Remember High Performance CARS magazine??
