Default Sealer on block plugs?

Hi guys

What sealer is best used when installing freeze plugs, camshaft plug and oil galley plugs?

I’ve read that some sort of special bottle of loctite would be good but it is about $150… That’s over the top.

It is an almost 50 year old 350 block (soon a 355).
Sealing edges of the plug holes are not brand new.

Shallow threaded pipe plugs available for freeze plugs too; many true race motors do that.

Some aftermarket race blocks come with holes already threaded.

I've never run unto a problem. But if you feel the need. Use something sticky, like Aviation gasket sealer, not something slippery like silicone.

Put the brush cap Permatex Indian Head Shelac inside the bore and drive the plugs in. You can put it on the sides of the plugs too if it makes you feel better but it will wipe off and make a mess as the plug goes in. Keep it neat. That shellac will dry hard and will not slide out like the softer setting sealers can. It's preferred for gluing the valve cover gaskets to the valve covers as well. Don't use it on the gasket to cylinder head side, so you can remove the covers later if needed and reuse the gasket.

Side tip: Shellac, whether still wet or dried, is easily cleaned up with denatured alcohol.
