Definitely keep the 400, it's way more fun to drive than the same car with a 350. With a two bolt block you can put studs in the mains and strengthen it that way instead of the added expenses of splayed caps that @Rebelyell was talking about.
Mine has studs and revs to 6500 RPM all day.
If you plan to build a nice street performing engine and keep it around 450hp-500hp there is really no need to spend the extra money to convert the block to 4 bolt mains.

Why not find a period correct 350, re stamp the block & tell everyone it's numbers matching like everyone else ( including the "ORIGINAL OWNER " ) who told you that it was the original motor. You know the guy who had a brain fart & casually forgot he CHANGED THE ENGINE ................That guy !
Or If you decide not to make the 400 a boat anchor, you can rebuild it, tell everyone it's a rare 1 of 1, factory 400 special order Canadian export car, deck the block, & re stamp it to match your build date and vin. It will make a great story for the next buyer

Yes, I get your point, but I don’t have time to fool around with all of that at 57 years old. I just wanna nice classic car to drive around and enjoy. I just didn’t wanna feel guilty messing up with the numbers matching rare car but if it ain’t, hey all the power to me, I can do what I want with it. That’s the reason I’m on this forum to really know what the hell was going on. I found a little 480 cam a performer intake a 750 brawler a set of Headers and some 416 heads that were a little worked. I hope I can reach 300 HP and have a vacuum for those lights.lol
