Default CE block

Not that anyone would fake a CE block but can you guys tell if this looks legit. I ask because the second “6” is double stamped and the “9” don’t match, but was told that happens a bunch on replacement blocks. Someone once told me you could tell how smooth the stamp area looked. Does anyone have PICTs of a 68 CE block?

Thank you I did read through the page, and some do have some strange number placement, especially the last number and all of the same numbers/letters don’t match perfectly.

Can anyone tell by the way it was stamped if it looks legit?

I believe this is a '69 block (from the 9 immediately after CE). I'm thinking these engines were stamped one right after the other using a gang holder with the CE9A36 because the group of 1000 blocks would have received this same stamp. Then as blocks were finished (and tested?) they got the last 3-digits by hand.

The character shapes look good to me and there are countless instances of stamps using different fonts for the same digits.

For other examples, you could skim through the C3 Registry Photos DB of engine stamps. I looked at '68 listings and believe I only spotted 1 CE engine but the quality of most of the pics is very poor.

I personally wouldn't let a CE block numbers bother me. It's no longer original anyway, so who cares ? Drive your Corvette like you stole it & enjoy it.
Don't let any "NUMBERS" or missing or present get in the way !!!
