Default 78 Pace car

Update on the 78 after 10 days, it would not quit raining after I got it, after a couple of days me and the wife took it for a spin, everything was great, shut it off and it sat for one day, no big deal. Memorial Day I went to start it up for a car show, wouldn't start thought I flooded it because I could smell gas. Ended up taking my C8 to the show. Got home and the Pace car started right up, cool. I let it sit until Friday so I could take it to the BMV, would not start, mad at this point. Started checking things today and found no gas to the carb. Added gas and all is good. Gas gauge at half tank is empty. Go figure.

It could be a bad sending you, but it's also likely a bad tank, or more precisely a bad bladder in the tank. 75-82 Corvettes have a rubber liner in the tank and if it gets a leak you end up with fuel between the tank and the liner.

Thanks for that, I didn't know. Went to the gas station today and put gas in it, It showed full. It showed half tank when empty so probably the sending unit, I hope.

75-77 have the flexible rubber type tank bladder. 78 and up have a rigid plastic type liner.
Very different.

How many gallons did it take to fill?

According to this thread, the '78s didn't have a soft bladder but used a more rigid plastic liner. (BTW, DUB was a pretty knowledgeable guy who unfortunately died a few years back.) The problem was solved by adjusting the sending unit.

Is there 23.7 gallons in my tank but I’m just not accessing it? At 8-9 mpg I’m always looking for stations! Appreciate any help...

i drained the tank and still had 10+ gallons of gas. Removed the sending unit and confirmed the inside of the tank was fine. Determined the sending unit problem, bent the arm back, and reinstalled the unit. 2 Tanks of gas later all is working well and I now put 20+ gallons in at each fill up! Thanks again for all the advise.
