Default POR15 problems (never before)

Hi everyone

I always had good luck and wonderful results with
POR15 on all my metal parts.

I did my entire frame with the metal prep and POR15 coating. Never any problems, but now I am having trouble:

-> I degreased
-> mediablasted
-> cleaned with compressed air
-> degreased again
-> applied POR15 metal prep
-> Let it stay soaked for about 20-30 min. (Not dry).
-> rinsed it with hot water about 2-3 times.
-> waited a day to let it dry. (bone dry)
-> applied 3 coats

I still get these ‘blank spots’ that are not completely coated.

What should I do guys? Is it the product or the surface?

Are you spraying? What are you using to thin the paint?

I would sand the areas not coated with some 600grit sandpaper and wipe the area off with some Acetone and reapply and see.

Never been a fan of the product. Paint Over Rust - WTF.

I have used Metal-Prep DX-579 for 50+ years followed by a conversion coating (Galvaprep).

The MetalPrep is phosphoric acid and cleans the bare metal. The Galvaprep forms a zinc phosphate coating which allows the primer to adhere to. Each step takes 2-3 minutes.

I'm no expert on how to fix the issue, but I don't think it's a product issue since other areas seemed to come out well covered. I've never seen that, but it MIGHT be caused by surface contamination. Even after degreasing and media blasting, sometimes after close examination I would find small areas that looked like surface imperfections but actually were still small bits of rust/grease. Additional blasting wouldn't remove them and I had to manually scrape them off before applying the metal prep & POR15. Perhaps that's your issue???

It can be used over rust but it also work extremely well when applied to clean, properly prepared metal the way Novusuhu and I do it.
