Default Looking for BB engine?

I'm looking for a complete Chevy BB to put in my 77. This would be my first rebuild etc. Where would you all suggest looking for a big block I could learn on and build up over a few years? If anyone in the Illinois area has one for sale. Please e-mail me at Digme1@aol.com.

After doing a swap, its probably cheaper and just as much power to build a 383 stroker.

fast guy thanks for the info I might end up doing that. Im just looking for really anthing to get my hands on (and in the process making a faster vette :-). I would prefer a BB. I figure you gotta start somewhere. Again if anyone in IL area has a chevy engine for sale, BB would be nice (not necessary). Thanks again everyone...

Just an idea, but I found my 454 at a local Marine boat shop. They deal in high performance motors for there customers, and always have used motors in usually good shape. Mine is a generation IV block, and had very few hours on it. Check out your local marina, you might be surprised, good luck!!
