F/S 68-72' Custom Speaker Box for sale
After being very disappointed with the “speaker bar” sold by some of the retailers I opted to make my own custom press-fit speaker enclosure. There has been quite a bit of interest on the forum so, I am now (on a limited basis) making them for sale.
This unit is of lightweight yet sturdy reinforced plywood construction wrapped in padded vinyl and finished with a “correct” C3 crossed flags emblem. This setup sounds as good as it looks and is far superior to some of the alternatives in my opinion.
Included are a set of 2-way, 300 watt 6 x 9 Alpines that really hum. These will sound very nice when powered by a good head-unit or amp, great spectrum of sound from highs to lows and nice bass. The one installed in my 72’ is powered by an amp with direct mp3 connection and I’m very happy with it, two speakers and an iPod is all you need for great sound. I have my amp located in one of the cargo bays but this setup would also facilitate mounting an amp on the back side between the speakers.
The fitment is perfect on my original coupe and takes up very little space. There is still plenty of room to slip the T-Tops in the back along with a small bag and even access to the rear window storage tray. These speakers are brand new and this unit was only installed for test fitment and sound quality. This is a great solution for the lack of rear speaker options on these cars, I think the buyer will be very pleased.
This setup should work with 68-82 Coupes and Verts but was specifically designed for the early models where cargo space is particularly tight, it only takes up about 3 inches of space from the rear wall.
Let me know if you have any questions or shoot me a PM.
$300 shipped (prices subject to change based on the particular speakers)

Thanks, had a bit of interest so I ended up selling both units. I guess this means I'm going to have to make another setup for myself and maybe I'll try this again, if there is any further interest let me know. I'll be ordering the supplies soon, I'd even entertain doing other colors to match interior if requested.
Both tracking numbers sent btw, thanks for the purchase, Enjoy!

Send me info too please! Also, interested in sealing behind the speakers.

I was using a very inexpensive amp with an mp3 input I got off ebay. It performed quite well considering the price. No overheating issues.
I've upgraded to a JBL, since I'm using 6 x 9's now and my head unit is stock 72'. I just completed an improved version of the setup with 600 watt Alpines (300w x 2) that is for sale. I'll post pics and price tomorrow. It looks awesome and sounds great!

If 2 TTOPS are stuck one on top of the other, will this cover some of the speakers?
Thanks

The pics are of the current and only build for sale at the moment; 1 of 1. It’s a press fit design and fits nice and snug. The Magnets of the speakers fit up against the rear wall of the cargo area and act as a brace for fitment purposes. You could attach permanently with additional bracketry, but I’ve found it not to be necessary at all.
With both T-top back there you will find they do cover the speakers a little but that is simple unavoidable. The difference in sound with the tops back there is slightly noticeable but not overly significant. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Stereo Cabinet
it is still a work in progress. The Vert is in the garage with the console tore apart right now. If you want to go with a newer system you will need to swap out the bezel to fit the new head unit in. I went with an Alpine unit. Eckler's had the bezel that I went with. I wanted it to look good. The speakers for the cabinet slipped right in, going with CDT's there. It is just a matter of getting things put back together. Murphy's Law always comes into play. I have a good sized Arc Amp that I am still trying to figure out what to do with it. I imagine it may just sit in the cargo area.It is to big for the storage boxes. I will send some picks when I get it together. As far as the cabinet, he did a really good job and I do'nt think there are going to be any issues there. It fits nicely in the rear of the car out of the way. I'll keep you posted on the progress.
