F/S - Original C-3 Corvette Trailer Hitch
SOLD, SOLD, SOLD, and heading to Arizona. Thank you for looking.
This is a Draw-Tite single tongue hitch, not a receiver style hitch. I bought this hitch in 2011, had the chrome stripped, removed all surface rust, welded a new safety chain retention ring to it and reinforced the ring area, then primed it and painted it. You can touch up the current black paint job, or you can strip it and have it Chromed or powder coated in your choice of color to match your car.
I installed it on my 1977 Corvette and used it to pull my Alumilite trailer to local car shows. I got a lot of attention and thumbs up when pulling the trailer, novelty item that was made available for pulling the Corvette Boats back in the day.
The only modifications necessary to install this on your car is drilling two holes on the existing frame and bolting it on. Took me 15 minutes.
It is stamped with C07 designation for Corvette.
It is a significant peice of steel and it is heavy duty. If you are looking to dress up your 1974-1978 Corvette and take it to a new novelty level then consider this a unique opportunity for you.
Rusted part when I bought it with broken bracket.
Stripped of the chrome.
New bracket welded on (4,000lb.) and painted.
Comes with u-bolts and replacement bumper bolts to put it in place.
I would like to see this go to an enthusiast that will use it but the first person to put down $75 plus pay shipping costs to their location in the USA will get it. I enjoyed using it, now it is time for someone else to have fun with it.
PM me with questions or interest please.
Thank you for looking.

F/S Original Corvette Trailer Hitch
Here are five pictures of the hitch mounted to my 1977 showing the view from outside the car, and from under the car. Sorry for shadows on the pictures.

Answering a question I got with a PM the tralier hitch was called the trailer group in 1977 and available as RPO ZN1 on 1977 through 1981 model years. In 1977 the ZN1 cost $78 as an option. I am not certain if installed at the factory or at the dealership but having installed this on my 1977 I know you have to drill four holes to mount the u-bolts into the frame. Six bolts total hold this bumper hitch to the car frame and it is quite sturdy when installed. Trailer hitch is rated at 2000lbs. total weight, 200lb. tongue weight and was manufactured by Draw Tite.
Thanks for looking and best regards,

Honestly I don't think so. The rear bumper mounting is different on the steel bumper cars. The RPO code didn't show up until 1977 but I would guess based on configuration it would work on 1974, 75 and 76 as well as 77-81. RPO code was not shown in 1982 so it was alread off the minds by then.
To be accurate I would have to say I don't know. To be safe I would suggest it most likely will not.
Thank you for looking and best regards,

I'll tke the hitch.
I believe the '81 rear frame is identical to the '82. That's why I'll take it. I need it to haul a handicap scooter on a class 3 hitch. Having this for my '82 would greatly improve my ability to show off my CE and have fun with the 'Vette. Just let me know how much you want for it and add the shipping to 85383. The Buz

My apologies to both who have asked for cost to ship to locations. I have been preparing for my trip to Daytona to attend the Daytona Speed Week and Daytona 500 leaving for there today. I won't be back for about a week but will get to this as soon as I return. I apologize for the dealy and thank you for your interest.

I'll still take the hitch if it is available...
If the other buyer decides against it I still want it. I know it may not be a class 3 hitch but it will work perfectly for towing a small light trailer with a scooter on it. It will be perfect for towing a trailer like a motorcycle would tow for a long trip. I know some people howl about putting a hitch on a 'Vette and towing anything but I've been a 'Vette guy since the late '60s. I've seen plenty of 'Vette's pulling trailers at car shows and scca type races with their race gear on the trailer. Many years ago there was a magazine article about setting up a 'Vette to tow a tandem axle boat trailer (with a boat of course)! Don't forget that big trailers have breaks too. Simply put, don't worry about trailering just set the car and trailer combination up properly.

Let me know if you want it and I will get the cost to ship it to you, then see if you still want it, okay?
Thanks for looking,

If you pay for shipping you can have it. I would like to see it used and you deserve to give it a try. I will quote you the shipping cost if you give me your address in a PM. I have a box to pack it up here and I don't think it will be very expensive to ship, this one is not really that heavy.

I do have a second hitch, it is not a fixed tongue but rather a receiver hitch. I replaced the fixed tongue I have here with the receiver hitch and now that the 77 is sold I don't need this one either. I will post a new posting about it in the for sale section shortly. If you have interest this is a very nice hitch.
Thanks and best regards,
David

Hello, new to this site would appreciate any info on this tow hitch that my late father purchased from a classic car swap meet in Fort Worth Texas about 20 years ago. I was present when the seller said it was a factory fit, my father purchased it for his 1976 c3 bit never fit it I I have no intention of fitting it! Would like to sell it but really need to know what it is I'm selling, I have done some research and I might be wrong but it looks more like a c1 assembly?? Thanks in advance Paul .
