Default 71-79 differential 3.08 auto trans car

I am looking for a 1971 to 1979 complete differential assembly (including back cover) with a 3.08 gear ratio (posi, of course) from an automatic transmission, small block car. I would consider a 3.36 ratio differential is all other factors fall into place.

Not interested in a differential that has an external damage or excessive rust issues.

The lower the mileage on the unit, the better.

I am located in north Alabama area. I am planning to drive from Huntsville, AL to Champaign, IL this Saturday if that helps at all.

You can email me directly at emccomas57@gmail.com

I am not in a hurry, I have plenty of time to locate the right unit.

Default Corvette differential

i have a 1973 complete 3.08 rear out of big block corvette with heavy duty side yokes. I got it a few years back but never installed in my vette cause I kept the 4 speed in the vette. If you are interested then email me at crspraggon@stpegs.com.

Please do check and let me know soonest. I will be stopping in Evansville, IN (actuallly Cynthiana) on my way to Champaign this Saturday.

The info I need is:

Year of differential unit?
Gear ratio?
Vehicle original transmission Type: Auto or manual trans?
Vehicle original engine type: L-48 / L-82 / LS-4?
Mileage on the differential?

Thanks.

Thanks for the contact and the info. I prefer not to use a big block differential, to many things to change out. Much appreciated sir.

Complete 3.36 Posi out of 1970. Manual (that makes a difference?). $500 crated and shipped to your door. Great running condition, no leaks. 80K miles. Needs a gasket to resecure the rear cover.

Needs to be 1971 or later. And stick shift car differentials get beat on a bit harder. Thanks for the offer, not quite what I am looking for.

The overall torque applied to them over the years.

An automatic trans cushions a bit of the torque before it gets to the diff.

A manual trans car, particularly ones where the clutch gets dumped, applies more "shock" to the diff.

Also, automatic trans cars, in general, appear to be driven easier.

Yes these are generalizations, but every little bit helps.

What I am lookng for, based in a large part on the recommendations of Gary R, is a diff that I can use as a core that also has the best chance of having the internal parts in good shape

My best option would be a 3.08 from a base motor, automatic car.

My worst option would be something like a 3.70 from a 1971 LS-6 4 speed car.

Again, it is more about possibilities that actuals.

I am going to have a 3.36 diff built for my 64 using whatever I find as a core. I have already ordered a set of Toms gears (in 3.36 ratio).
