Can anyone tell me the best way to blackout chrome and stainless trim items? I saw this cool pic in another post... and was wondering what they did to the T-bar to get it to look like that??
I have some of the blackout tape, but that's hard to find on occasion. Any ideas??

Try Dupli-Color trim paint. You can get it at Auto Zone along with a clear adhision promoter primer. Another option would be PPG DP 90 epoxy primer as an adhesion aid.
I painted the stainless trim on my DD satin black. Scuffed it real good, primered with Krylon, three coats of Semi-flat Krylon on top. It's been on there for a year with no signs of wear. It gets run through an automatic wash about once a week and is driven about 100 miles every day. No regrets.

Here are some pictures that I have here at work. None are very upclose.
When I purchased the car, the trim was already black. I actually realized at one point that all the trim over the windshield should be chrome since it is an '80, and took to one small portion with some 000 steel wool. I couldn't hardly get that black to come off. I would assume that it is painted since I bought the car from Bubba himself. Although, I do remember reading that in '81 you could order chrome or black trim. I wonder if someone didn't swap out the chrome for black pieces, since there is no chrome on my car.
