Default Water Level in Expansion Tank??

My '69 L46 has the separate expansion tank. Is the water level supposed to be topped off in those just like a normal radiator would? This one is new to me but it's really the same design in the C5s and those are only filled about 1/2-3/4 full. Thanks guys....

Isn't there a hot / cold fill line on it?

Not that jumped out at me. Mine is not in the best shape so I'm looking for a new one right now.

I have a 1970 with the same tank. You want it HALF full when it is cold.

If it is empty then fill to half full, put a rag on top and then squeeze the hoses here and there to get air out, check the level again and top up if needed. Next day when it is the coolant is cool check level again.

Thanks Strinry!!! That's about where it is now but I just wanted to make sure. I'm bidding on one on ebay right now. The whole new fuel system is going in this weekend so hopefully I'll get to finally drive this baby.

If you're looking for a good product to add to your coolant, I found Water Wetter to work well. It'll keep your engine running cooler.
