.......air box so that I can maintain the heater. I have checked various venders and cannot find a replacement piece. I don't want to "cut-up" the A/C portion. Please note that this is the "under the hood" part(s) required to mount the blower/motor and duct air through the heater core.
Your A/C engine side housing will have to stay UNLESS you are doing a complete changeover from A/C to non-A/C like I did to my '75 last summer. With the A/C heater box, the heater core sits vertically "in the box". On a non-A/C, the heatercore cover is of course much smaller and the core sits horizontally. You should be able to use the heater the way you have it, just with the A/C non-working or I've misunderstood what you're trying to do
I believe they are out of business, but any '68-'82 Corvette "parts recycler"(which there are many)will have the "non-A/C" parts I used. I did a complete changeover which consisted of even changing the "INNER" box behind the passenger side dash, which is what you'd need to do too IF you want to use the smaller "non-A/C" engine side heaterbox cover & core. I even went so far as to "strip" the car of everything A/C related(condensor in front of radiator, all A/C refrigerant lines, A/C-Heater controller & related vacuum lines), then after finding all the "correct" non-A/C parts, I re-installed everything and made my car a "non-A/C" car. It came out so good, 95% of people looking at it think it's stock. I even sold the A/C stuff which paid for most of the non-A/C things I had to buy.
73 Vette:
I too have a 73 Vette, it is the same color as yours but a 350 4 speed. It was an air car but I am missing some parts in my reassemly. The car was taken back to kit form by a Drunk chick at a super bowl party. So if you decide to releave yourself of the extra parts please let me know, condenser / evaporator / piping / pump et' al.
Many thanks my friend.................................. .............Chris

I have spent lots of time and money trying to get and keep my a/c functional! I'll be rebuilding the air box with new seals when I pull the engine... I can see where the big a/c box under the hood could be a PITA! I do not look forward to getting my engine out and back in while avoiding ripping into that box (and the evaporator)! Should be even more fun as I add Hooker headers when I install the engine... Tips there?
