aligning drive shafts with differential

aligning drive shafts with differential

I took out my rear end today and the book said to mark where the drive and half shafts are to the differential, I think this is for balancing, I want to replace my differential with a different rebuilt one with lower gears, how do I know where to align the shafts to the new rear end? Thanks

Makes no difference. As you turn the half shafts rotate at different speeds and they will never stay the yway you put them. They are always turning at different rates when you turn.

They only aligned them a certain way to make installation easier, something about aligning to get at the bolt easier. I never worry about orientation anyway because I turn the rearend over to get at the 1/2 shaft bolts anyway.
