Default Late or Early Model

I am new to the Corvette world. I have a 77, and in shopping for parts, some are listed specifically for early or late year models. Can you tell from the VIN, and which digit? Thanks

This is discussed every so often but I couldn't find an old thread. To answer your question, yes you can tell by the VIN, sort of. Realize that cars were not early or late but parts that were put on the car may have changed troughout production thereby giving an early and late version of the same part. So your car may have originally come with a mix of both early and late parts. As parts were changed, the new part was introduced to the assembly line so that prior to VIN x (the last VIN built before the introduction), early parts were used and after VIN y (the first VIN after all early were gone) late parts were used and between x and y either or both may have been used. Ask your vendor or on this forum what is correct based on your vin. This information is also covered in the NCRS Technical Judging Manual which you can buy from NCRS and is probably the best source for what originally came on your car.

Early 77s did not have the cross flags on the fender, nor did they have stingray emblems did not have leather steering wheel.76s had had orange motors 77s blue early 77s could have either. Mine was built in november of 76 and is an early whenever i needed parts, like t-top headliners ect.

Default early or late model 77

Thanks for the answers. I also spoke with someone at Mid America who told me that depending on the t-top latch, I could if identify as an early or late.
