Does anyone know of a company that makes pipes that run UNDER the car and exit in front of the rear wheels instead along side like sidepipes? Does anyone have pics of something like that installed?
I'm thinking of something that takes a 20-40 degree angle off the collectors. I am not sure what the angle should be to aim it in front of the rear wheels, but somehthing like that should be close.
Maybe something large enough to fit JCL baffles in

It seems like Burners has pipes that exit right in front of the wheels. Let me see if I can dig up a picture of his car. Maybe he will chime in and tell you more about it.
Edit: After checking my pics of his car, none of them show the pipes.

It might work with a short chambered pipe, might work with a dual cat car (replace the cats with mufflers) but I am not which years came with duals cats, thinking 74-?.

my cat is gone (ran away from previous owner) and I'd lose the chambers. I'm thinking open pipe for the track with baffles for the street. I like sidepipes, BUT have burned my leg on hot exhaust on my bike- NOT fun and don't wish to repeat it. Also, I think they'd flow just as good if not better due to fewer 90 degree bends.
Either that or I quiet the whole thing down with mufflers for the street and get cutouts installed for the track. His car is louder than mine, but like Oliver said, "stepping on the gas is like calling the cops"

that's silly....no cats till 75 and none of the c3's had dual cats.
It would be very easy I'd think. They make 3" and 3.5" auger style inserts, cheap too from speedway motors. Just build a exhaust tube that does what you want, stick the inserts in and viola, best of both worlds...
If you want more clearance just flatten the tube a litle or run dual smaller tubes.
quit trying to make your corvette a mustang!! j/k!!
I would really like to see some pics of this sort of thing!
I'd have to slow it down!
I know there are faster ones out there, but of the Mustangs at the 1/8 mile track the other night, my Vette was faster than any that drove in like I did. That goes for a stock 4.6 that ran as well as an '05.
There was a 5 second one there, but it obviously wasn't street legal. Man he was fast!
And I've only just begun! I have some work to do to compensate for my fat car.
there is another company that offers the baffles in 11 inch sections at a FRACTION of the JCLs and they can be put in 3 inch pipes, all u have to do is buy a few of them and weld them together and they are still like 200 bucks less than JCLs, same exact design...now if i could just find that website...
I guy near me has a 74 that looks like sidepipes. He has the
fiberglass covers installed, but no pipes under them.
His dual exhaust comes back to 2 turbo mufflers under the
floor pans. the pipes then take a 90 bend and exit at the rear
opening of the sidepipe covers. You could obviously do something
similar with 3" pipe and some inserts.
that could be a cool setup with electric cut outs...you could also bend the tips to get an elliptical shape that would look smooth and save a little on clearance
That's what I've got on my 68 right now - did it last summer when I installed the headers. I didn't take any pics, but if you want I can try to take a few later in the week (won't have digital camera here for a day or two). I used 2-1/2" pipe, minimum ground clearance is about 3-1/2", the only place it's ever scrapped is on the concrete apron to my garage (kinda steep angle). I haven't noticed any exhaust smell in the car either. I went this route as an easy way to get the car back on the road for min. $; I'll go with sidepipes (look better IMHO) when I put the bigblock in the car. But I do love the way it sounds now. Jeez I wish all this snow would melt so I can drive it again...

Sounds like you want what my brother in law (his car) and I did to a '71 Duster many years ago. Swapped in a 360 and went to Midas where they fab'd up a exhaust system exiting right in front of the rear wheels. Didn't require that much bending.
He shoulda kept the Cuda R/T that the 360 came out of instead of the duster.

we're going to use 3 of these on each side and just weld them together and put them in 3 inch pipes under the factory 69 covers
I did this last year. I used 3.5" pipes under the fiberglass covers.
I used 3 per side, and it's almost too quiet. But I like em. They have an interesting sound, but I realised after the car went away for the winter that the inserts might be spinning in the tube, I'll have to fix that.
If you haven't bought them yet call Summit and Jegs, one of them had them for even less than speedway!
Oh, BTW, I gained about 3" of vacum from the stock sidepipe mufflers, and the augers are quieter too! All the way up to 14" of vaccum.
