Want to go with a ceramic coated set of long tube headers on my SB 71 350 with chambered exhaust.
Question is do I just buy the headers and exhuast and remove my original headers and exhaust and bolt on the new item?
What about the heat risers I don't know if I have them?
Also donuts what are they and are they needed. ??

I recently put mid america chambered pipes and hearders on my 79. It wasnt a direct bolt on for me. When I went to line them up the pipes would not line up to go through the cross member so I had to get them rebent so they would fit. After it all being on though it sounds pain awsome.

The pipes connect to the header's collectors with reducer cones that need to be welded to the pipes. The heat riser riser valve isn't used with headers. "Doughnuts" are used with stock manifolds, not with headers. For the most part, headers are bolt in but, as I mentioned, some welding is required. I install my headers at home and then drive with them open to the muffler shop to have them connected (fun drive! ). If you are replacing the pipes at the same time, it's safer to have the muffler shop do that part because you won't know where to cut them to fit your particular headers.

Sorry to butt in on your thread.. but do you get less hp from chambered exhaust than the factory original pipes?

Thanks,
Michael
