"The Phoenix Project" lives!!
We went for a quick trip down the road yesterday, and what I've noticed is that the steering is VERY quick.
Is that common? I'm not sure what steering ratio it has (there's only one, right?). It just has the feeling that it could get out of hand in a hurry in the unexperienced hands.
It also has this wierd thing...I'll try to explain.
When you have your foot on the brake and switch from drive to reverse, it feels like the rear end squats down a bit, then does the opposite when put back in reverse. Is this a trailing arm....u-joint....or some other mount related problem?? I'm a little stumped at the moment. Anyone??
I'm assuming the 'quick steering wheel' behavior is related to bumpy uneven roads; the steering wheel can get away from you if you don't 'hold on'. In my experience with my '80 L48, this may be a result of marginal shocks, badly worn tires or loose front suspension (control arm bushings or ball joints).

What's funny is that it doesn't feel loose at all, and all of the front end stuff looks to be OK. This being said, I'm planning on doing a complete front end rebuild when I get new springs and cut out 1/2 coil. It's just a little nerve racking as the car is turning, and you've only THOUGHT about doing it!! It's got PMS....er,....PDQ....no, wait.......ESP!!
