Never had to do this with the engine in the car. I figure that all you need to do is jack up that side of the engine and take the three bolts out?
any suggestions would be helpful..Saturday is my day to do it.
It is a 76 L48.
Thanks,
Jim
That's pretty much it, yep.
Getting it back IN can be a trick.... first one took me a while but I learned a few lessons. First, having shallow-depth sockets helps alot. The bolts that go into the block are short and it's a pain to get them push up into the block to get them started. What I did for the second block was to put the crossbolt through the frame in, but not bolt it. This will rough-position the mount. Then lower the engine onto it. Raise the engine up just a bit so you can move the engine mount around. Remove the crossbolt and then you should be able to get the 2 block bolts started.
Stay away from the cheap auto zone motor mounts. The one they sold me flat out did not fit. O'reilly sold the same mount. I finally went to NAPA and bought their mount. It looked a bit different than the original, but it fit perfectly. You can get energy suspension mounts from most places, though.
Watch the fan clearance to the shroud when you jack the motor.
I'd pull BOTH through bolts and jack the whole motor, not just one side. But that's just me.
