Default Oddball TH400

Well today I'm changing the fluid and filter on my 75 with a 400 trans. I put the tacky stuff on the cover and lay on the gasket. Then I go back to change the filter. It's completely different from the new one . It's about 8" long, narrow and all encased in metal with a separate pickup tube. No big deal, I'll just go back to NAPA and get the right one. It turns out they don't even sell this filter anymore. He says he found one about 5 yrs. ago for about $75. He says the tranny probably came out of a 65 or 66 Chevy. So I dug the old filter out of the garbage and tomorrow I'll run some parts solvent through it and see what happens. If it doesn't last long I'll have a good reason to put in an overdrive.

You might try checking the filter for the TH400, truck version. I put the deeper truck pan on my 69 and and it was identical but 1" deeper.

A lot of vette parts are the same as truck parts. Heavy duty is heavy duty. Joe

All truck TH400 have separate pickup tubes. Just go to your parts store and ask for a filter kit for a 1975 3/4 ton with a 400. Vettes share a lot of parts with trucks, like was said before "Heavy duty is Heavy duty". I work on trucks all the time, I can't remember a 400 that didn't have a separate pickup.....Gord

I have the same thing in a turbo 400 tranny from a '67 Caprice (full sized Chevy) -- its been in my '67 elCamino for years.
