i can't find replacements for my seat belts. what gives? the guy i talked to at ecklers told me that gov't regulations have made it so tough on manufacturers that there aren't any original style replacements out there. the only thing available is a simple lap belt without auto retract. YGTB$M!!! i can't believe that's true. so now my safety is in more danger because our benevolent gov't has run manufacturers out of business? say it ain't so!
i find it hard to believe, unless the c4 belts i see in the ecklers and MAD catalogs are NOS G.M. units.
well, i've heard that there are a few places that will recondition the originals. anybody know where i can get that done?
There have been many threads about the conversion from the original Corvette seat belts to the late model Camaro/Firebird rear seat belts. The problem you stated has been one of the reasons why.
For upgrading your original belts, there is a company called Snake Oyl http://www.ssnake-oyl.com/ that does seat belt restoration.
Did you see the little self-contained retractors that they sell
for the simple lap-belts ? I haven't decided what to do yet.
I will either get the lap belts or the F-body rear-seat shoulder belts.
I had my belts(80) done by snakeoyl, they re webbed them ,rechromed the buckles and shipped them for $183.00 Just the main belts not the little latch ends. They came out great. That a lot less than new if you can find them. They will also sew your orig date tags back on for an extra fee.
hey, thanks for the replies guys. at these prices and since this will be no where near an NCRS restoration, i think i'm going to check out some other alternatives. i'll post my solution.

I've used Ssnake-oyl and they are great. I didn't replace belts, but had an extension made for mine because they were too tight. Easy company to work with and reputable.
I've recently purchased a set of F-body seat belts and have begun installing them in my 74 coupe. My biggest problem is that it doesn't look like the retractor fits in place like it should. Anyone got a link to a thread on how to install those properly?

I put them in my 73. seatbelts
I cut the black plastic back so they would come up at the right angle. I did not put the covers back on the side panels yet.
i got my complete set(frt and rear retractors) for passenger and driver from===========SUNWEST AUTO SPECIALTIES----karl roepke(505)2927609------8400 menaul n.e. #a-101-albuquerque new mexico---87112- he has been collecting seat belts since the 70's- there completely restored g.m. buckles.correct colors ,even have the correct ''tags'' sewn in-and he has the proper torques headed bolts to mount them up- mater of fact i needed the ''t'' that keeps the belt from sliding in the back rest-and he sent me 4 in the mail last year,,, he'll have what your looking for
The F-body belts won't work on later C3s where the retractor mounts on the door column, only on earlier C3s where the retractor mounts on the rear wheel well hump.
I have a 74 where it mounts over the wheel wells, but they dont seem to mount facing forward. Instead, then tend to point inward toward the center of the car.

i sloted the holes a little, just enough to help them sit better. Maybe 1/4" or so. I used the same bolts for the retractors
