Default Help, 68-72 hood latches

Okay forgot to take digital pics when I removed the hood hardware. I've reassembled everything after redoing the hood and everything works but there is a cutout in the hood, in the picture below, and the wire doesn't go that direction.

see the cutout to the right of the wire hanger at about 1000?

The latches were marked L and R and also scribed and thridly they can only go on one way but what's up with that cutout?

Here is the Corvette Central website picture, kind of hard to see but it looks like it connects differently.

you know it almost looks likes the latch mechanism needs to be rotated....if you unhook the cables can you rotate the latch mechanism to make the bolt holes line up differently?

you know when i look at your last picture it looks like the latch mechanism "hole" is in a differnent location on one side then the other.... it seems the one that you think is wrong needs to be moved 90 degrees clock wise?

Do you have an AIM? Maybe someone with a 68 can take a digital pic for you...if not, I'll take one Monday when I get back home..

The passenger side latch on my '68 is of a different designed than the one you have in the picture. The cable on mine goes across the top of the latch. The return spring is on the left side of the latch. I have a picture uploaded to the forum but it is waiting on approval. I could e-mail it to you if you like.

Jeff

Edit - Here is a pic of my hood latch.

David,
I took a pic of mine and it appears to be exactly the same as yours.

I am about to give mine a tubbing. She is dirty from driving her Monday and Tuesday IN THE RAIN Hey even the wipers work!
We have a big run tomorrow, our club is doing a lap of Port Phillip bay. Doing the ferry crossing at the wet bit.

I don't get it.

Why are you hacking on it with a dremel.

Are you trying to slip fit it???????

That's how it is on my 68 also. I believe there were two different latch types used in 68. I think it was the early / late production thing.

For your information that is a carving stone which works great at cutting down excess fiberglass till it's smooth enough to bring out the sandpaper.

Sure Jeff, please email me at david.oakey@gmail.com.

Thanks to all for the input.

Cheers

One style in 68. Carried over to early 69 then changed to style used thru 72

The bolt patern is different on the latches and hood. No interchanging of latches

Looking at the CC pic you posted, it shows part numbers for two different release cables for 68 (early / late). I think the latch & cable design changed part way through 68, and the second design carried over to 69.
