I have to first say this is one great forum. Now for the question My tach on my 79 did not work, so I went and purchased and installed a
electronic tachometer printed circuit board. It still does not work. Is there anything else I could try? All input is appreciated.
Thanks
Sorry, can't help you.... but my tach doesn't work so let's bump it ttt
When I bought my '79 it had an aftermarket tach that worked... I installed the original instruments and now the needle moves into 'negative' as soon as I start the engine... it moves slightly but obviously not indicating the correct rpm... I also need some input and advice....
Check the tach wire going to the HEI distributor coil. It first goes through a filter mounted next to the EGR valve. This could be the problem...the filter that is. Or the connector at the coil sometimes becomes brittle and breaks. See if you can bypass the filter and connect directly at the coil. It should have another connector (unused) mounted in the same spot. This connector is used for an outboard tachometer used in servicing if required.
