Default Edelbrock performer carbs

Anyone ever replaced the stock q-jet with a performer carb from Edelbrock? I've got the chance to do a dead even swap for a Edlebrock performer if I trade my 3 week old q-jet. Happy with the q-jet but would the performer be better for HP? Feedback please.

I replaced my q-jet with and Edlebrock but that was after an engine rebuild so I can rally say that what the performance difference was. Actually, after the rebuild I had switched to a Holly but could never get it set up right so I switched to the Edlebrock and have had no problems whatsoever. Of course if you get the q-jet setup correctly that is a good carb too.

Nothing you will feel.

The Q-Jet is a great street carb when set up properly. It will feed a 400 HP motor and still get 18-20 mpg on the highway.

The Edelbrock is copy of the old Carter AFB. It is an OK carb, very easy to tune. For true performance, go with a Demon but once again, it is all in the tuning.

Yep, that was the thought process when I bought the new q-jet. I figured that there wouldn't be enough performance increase to justify the loss of MPG. Right now my motor is still stock, may go with a Demon once I build it. Plan is to go with 9.5:1 CR, preformer RPM manifold and cam set, headers, true duals, and a 2200 - 2400 stall converter. Talked with Edelbrock tech line and they told me that I'd be running about 385hp with this set up. Not trying to build a monster just wanted other opinions on the carb swap. Plan is to have a "HOT" daily driver.

I currently have the #1406.....trouble free and very reliable. I don't really consider it a performance upgrade...just a nice dependable carb. Depending on the manifold you may need the #2696 square bore adapter.
Curious about your screen name......Fanuc...as in CNC controls?

"When I was a boy I played with childish toys. When I became a man I bought a Barry Grant"

OMHO send the Q-Jet to LARS and you'll be very happy, a well tuned Q-Jet is a great carb. Other than that BG.

goinbroke, yep Fanuc as in CNC controls. You and only a few other people have ever caught the meaning. Not many people know what Fanuc is, are you a programer? As far as manifolds go, I'm looking at the performer RPM for spreadbores. No adapter needed and with a little "Fanuc Magic" on the breather base, it will all fit under the stock vette hood.

Cali,68,L-79, beautiful engine!

LOL.......the word Fanuc is hard to miss when you've been around this stuff for a while. Programming in Mazatrol here. I'd be interested to know how you like the performer RPM when you get it all together.

.......and I agree.....Cali's vette has always been one of my favorites....beautiful inside and out!!

I did the same thing with my '80 and I love it. Runs great right out of the box.

the quadrajunk carb is a real good carb. but youve gotta be a guru or a bubba to be intelligent enough to tune one properly, they are complicated. but i say go with technology. the edelbrock is a great carb. my vette had one when i bought it, and havent had one issue with it. dependable as hell. but when i install the next engine, it will be for performance, so im using a speed demon. go figure
