I agree with the others. I haven't seen a C3 yet, with new foams, that didn't seem high and firm. .
Great for female body parts...but not seats. My new seat foam from The Last Detail is also hard, but I'm only 5'-7" and like sitting up high. Hope they soften up though.

For real fun, try being 6'00", 330 lbs and get into a 1980 with the t-tops on while wearing a helmet.
When I run the 1/4 mile I have to lean my head over so that I am looking under the mirror and out the center of the windshield.
I am looking at buying another set of bottom foam from Corvette America. They have some NQP "not quite perfect" foams for about $40 ish. I will take them, cut the bottom off as much as possible and open up the bottom bolsters so my wide rear can sit down in them further and get them covered in cloth and use them while racing. I am tired of folding myself into my car with the helmet on. I can't even breath well when I am stuffed in like that.

thats too funny......we were test driving our vette after the engine trans install and my kid was driving...first thing he did was take off his baseball cap...he looked at me and said when we go over a bump the little round button in the center of the cap keeps getting embedded in his head.....

I'm 6'5" 250lbs and fear putting in new foam. Has anyone tried to cut down the foam prior to install?
I see that some have mentioned getting seats from wilcox. I am looking at new inserts and carpet. were you happy with them?
They are a lot cheaper than ecklers.
How can a person find a price list from Wilcox? Anyone got an address for him?
Thanks
Here ya go. http://www.yankeelady.com/willcox/willcox4.htm#seats
I've been shopping around too, and they seem to have pretty good prices. I don't recall hearing anything negative about their service or products.
I bought new foam for my 1970 seats. It was from one of the normal vette vendors (forget right now). It wasn't Knoch or Wilcox. Anyhow I did try to use it and it didn't look like it really fit. Without going into all the details, it looked like it was a too big/illshaped. Anyhow, my factory original foam cushions were OK so I just used them. I would imagine in the years ahead with a little use, the originals will crumble. I really wanted to replace them with new, but I didn't want to hassle with something that didn't fit. Maybe I should have tried harder?
The 1970 seats were pretty fussy to restore. That steel strap release mechanism was a lot of fun. (#*!***) All of the little parts to restore the seat to new were not cheap. My new covers were leather so I was really careful fitting in the release mechanism. You have to cut your expensive new seat covers with an X-acto knife to fit in the release buttom.
Did anyone have to trim the foam cushions to make them fit. Did you just install them the way they came.

i did the seats one year ago so my memory is not particularly fresh but i recall that the seat bottoms had grooves cut in them to fit over various parts of the frame so a "straight shaving" would not work very well

Yeah - that may be a problem. On the 1978 and later seats they have a flat bottom.

I have the same question as you!
Wilcox's seat leather/padding is cheapest but is it the same quality as the other vendors? How can they be so much cheaper than the rest?
I've been meaning to call them re: my 70' to verify if the leather stitching runs vertical on the seat covers.
Outstanding website!! I could have used Spiderman's help last year about this time!....especially to pull the clips through the foam and get them to clip on to the wires in the back.
So, are the wilcox seats ok? The price seems to be quite a bit better than ecklers??? I need the covered inserts and new carpet....
I got new foam/covers and carpet from Wilcox. Everthing was perfect I am very happy with it. Fit was great and looks great also. See pictures in my gallery for shots of finished job.
Got my seats for my 69 back from Upholstery shop today and I was unhappy with them! I learned my Vynil Comfort-Weave seat covers were defective (came with my car in a box for free) (original owner picked them up at a show real cheap - now I know why) and I also learned the Seat foam I just got from Al knoch was dry rotted according to the Upholstery shop. I am going to have them redone. They do not look as good as I was hoping. Where is the best place to buy correct fitting FRESH soft seat foam??? I will call Al Knoch about my foam tomorow. I would like to find new fresher covers (my were old) and new soft fresh seat foam (mine were dry rotted) and get my seats redone correctly.
