Default Un-rigging my 81'

Yesterday I started tearing into my new to me 81'& I can't believe what people can do to a vehicle to rig it instead of fixing it right. All door panels are attached with sheet metal screws along with various other panels & pads.T-tops were superglued together,I already posted on this. The rear window/hatch has a coat hanger for a release cable. The hood release handle is a small pair of vise-grips.Other than that the interior is trashed. When I started it I found timing way off,35* initial, but it started & ran. Then I looked at intake & oil was bubbeling out around bolts, thats when I found that the intake was resealed with RVT,can't see a gasket. You can hear the vac leak,I can't believe this thing runs.So top end comes apart tomorrow.I guess that is why I got it for $3500.On the good side I did sell one of my H-D's yesterday a 53',so I'm going to be paying a visit to Eklers next week to spend it all.......Bob

you may find those sheet metal screws holding the door panels are not such a bad thing after all......

You think that is bad....one of my valve covers had a crager type lug nut shoved in the pvc gromet to block it off. I first thought, "what kind of valve screws in here". When I got it out I thought, "Oh my god, what else am I going to find"

How about RTV in all exhaust joints to seal leaks.

If it is an '81, it shouldn't even have a rear window/hatch. I think only the 82 collectors edition had those

As far as the rear hatch goes, supposedly there was a kit to retrofit a hatch possibly Ecklers. The latches are pretty flimsy & it looks like it leakes there also, needs seal also.

Actually, there are a couple of "original" 81' hatchbacks..late in 81 when the 82's were fixing to come out..the hatch was available through the dealer in late 81. From what I hear from a very reliable source..some of the dealerships added this hatch to a few 81's to enitce my customers to buy 81's that were still on the lot to get ready for incoming inventory.
