Default Sidepipes on 68 Vette

I'm looking at putting sidepipes on my vette, I'd like to go with these but don't want to do fender flares, anyone know if these will fit on 68 Vette w/o flaring fenders. Anyone know where they could be had for a good price.
thanks in advance.

Those are Hooker sidemounts. You'll have to cut some relief into the rocker mouldings, but no other body mods are necessary. You can get them at any speed shop, like Summit or Jegs. You can also order them from JetHot if you want them ceramic coated. That's what I did. The ones in that picture look like chrome. I wouldn't recommend chrome. Stainless or ceramic coated are beter from a rust standpoint.

As stated above, they are hookers and you don't need flares to run them. Just buy the and get the JCL baffels (stock mufflers suck and rob power), I LOVE mine.

Rust is always a problem with exhaust components. You have moisture in exhaust, heat, and corrosive gases.

Go ceramic, it is much better.

Unless you're never gonna drive it, and gonna rub some moisture resistance gel on it every week, it's gonna rust eventually

ahhh, didn't know that. I've owned cars in Calif for years and never had to replace an exhaust system. My Jeep was 10 yrs old. What's ceramic typically black?
thanks

The ceramic coating doesn't rust, but looks VERY dull on a chrome bumper car. You have shiny mirror chome front and rear bumpers then hazey/dull sidepipes. Looks out of place, though it's not as obvious on a rubber nose. They now make a "sterling" finish which is a little more shiney, but nowhere near the shine of chrome.

Personally, I rather have a shiney finish for 18yrs and re-chome them than to have a duller finish that will last 10yrs+.

I live in Southern California and I am concerned with corrosion/rusting of chrome parts. I live in a coastal marine area. Things will rust/corrode here. For me, it's an ongoing battle. Headers, with their extreme heat inputs, are good candidates for corrosion/rust no matter were they are. To say that you don't have to worry about chrome plated headers rusting because you live in Southern California is an interesting comment. I'd tend to think that chrome plated heaters will tend to rust no matter where you live. Mild steel headers with a chrome plate will easily rust since the chrome plating can't get into some of the weld areas of the headers/collector. I think that you need stainless steel or the ceramic coated headers to fight rust.

Just installed a pair of SS hookers on my 70
looks as nice a chrome and can be polished
i did not need to do any cutting on body
had to cut the rockers to get them back on
bought from Summit $970 for headers
$359 for side tubes no baffles(shipped price)

changing topic a bit....
but where do you think the calendar vette got the roll-bar "humps" for the vert? I've done some poking around, but haven't easily found anyting.

BTW, just to keep this somewhat on-topic, side pipes add a sweet look to a C3, and I hope to be able to add them someday to my '73 vert. I would think SS would sufficient enough, somewhat matching the same amount of shine from the rally wheels and luggage rack.

Those were custom built. Dtengle (a member here) has some for sale that are similar. I bought a set from him this winter. No pictures yet...too cold to work on the car. They are really nice! Get a hold of him.

Yep...and for Auto-X/recreational-use harnesses. Perfect for me and my G-Force 5-pt. harness rig.

That's why I was interested, 'cuz someday soon I'd like to put in some 5-pt harnesses. Has this topic been covered here on the forum enough in the past that I shouldn't ask, I should search the archives?

Going back to the sidepipes/hooker's question: does anybody have a rating for level of difficulty for installing these? Including cutting?
