While removing the thin wire from my starter solenoid, I managed to break the terminal. New solenoid is about $30 locally, so I started thinking about replacing the 28 year old starter with a mini. My old block was drilled and tapped for both the straight and staggered starter bolt holes. Original is staggered. New block is tapped for staggered holes only.
No, I am not about to drill and tap my new block, so I need a recommendation for where to get a new tech starter with staggered holes.
Thanks,
P.S. - So much for my economical upgrade! The more I do, the greater the cost. At this rate, I will have about 50% more into this than I figured. You know, while I was in there...
I like the Delco mini starter that resembles a small stock starter. There have been several threads discussing it. Mine was quite a bit more than a stock starter, but no more heat soak!
I just bought a starter for 85 corvette, its a gear reduction type unit. Find a rebuilt its much less than what you get via mailorder and bolts right up. oops, dont think its staggard.
I have a big block starter that is spare, not the mini, but I would let go of it cheap. I also have just a solenoid if you would like. Heck, I even have just the solenoid cap I would give to you for free if you wanted to pick it up.
I was chasing electrical demons, so that meant buy 3 spare starters....
I'm no expert on starters but.....
I bought a Powermaster Mini starter on e-bay. It has a staggered bolt pattern and fits a 168 tooth flexplate.
It works like a champ.

Moon Twp. is near the Pittsburgh airport. Thanks for the offer, but I want a mini starter.
