Default Diff Carrier Bracket Bolts

Replacing the Differential Cushions tonight...
While there I figured I will remove the whole bracket from Diff. , clean and paint the area too.

There are 2 bolts, one has a castle nut (Circled) and one doesn't

Is this correct? The cotter is missing (or broken off) and the castle nut is not budging. Any ideas on removing this little gem?

Lastly... I should be able to do all this without removing rear spring and yokes, correct? (Little late to ask I guess as I am half way there)

I removed mine ('74) last year to clean/paint after removing the diff for rebuild. My castle nut cotter pin was broken off, but half the pin was still in the bolt. Might want to check again to ensure you don't have part of the cotter pin still in there. Otherwise, soak in Kano Kroil....

Good Luck.

By the way, after I removed and painted this particular bracket and the differential crossmember (POR-15), I also cleaned and painted the exposed frame, here, there, next thing I knew, I had the body off and am just now finishing an entire frame restoration..... :o It looks so good as you go, it gets addictive. Even dropped the gas tank and painted it too. Be careful!

My bracket is welded to the rear housing at all 4 nut and bolt head locations, don't know why? The differential is a 308 and needs a total rebuild, I have a clean 336 differential and usable bracket being shipped to me now, I'm thinking I could rebuild my 308 at another time with a new ring and pinion to suit my engine (still planning it), I need to get cost down now because the rest of the rear is coming from VanSteel (SO FAR REALLY NICE STUFF).
I also stripped, cleaned and painted Por15 on the frame and rear cross overs, nasty job but its done, I will also be painting the gas tank, straps, shield, rear end, half shafts, diff and cross member but am still looking for the right colors, I'm thinking about a few shades of gunmetal, I also undercoated the fiberglass undercarrage, looks good so far and yes I got carried away.

Boy are you right. This is ADDICTIVE
I already did the rear of the frame around gas tank
and frame rails when headers were off. That POR 15 is awesome, but sealing the can back for re-use has been tough. Sooner or later as I get brave will I start venturing into the unknown on this car
