Default Funny First Ride

So after my wiped cam debacle I finally get the new crane cam in and the engine broken in. I had another scare when the engine sounded like I wiped another cam lobe but it turned out that the rocker adjusting nuts were backing themselves out and one had came completly off. (that might have been what wiped out my other cam). Luckily nothing bad happened to the engine this time. So I ordered some crane kool nuts but they were rubbing against my roller tip rockers (doh!) so I ordered the comp polylocks but the wrong size (doh! doh!). So after two weeks of this I finally get the right size and the car running again and a freind of mine (stngray63) shows up and we take it on its maiden voyage. We get about 1/4 mile from my house and the car quits and won't restart. (NOW WHAT!) It is dead as a door nail. I fear the worse. Luckily I have a glass fuel filter and Brian notices that its dry as a bone. I know it said a 1/4 tank before we left so we shake the car and sure enough its dry as a bone. Guess I'll have to drop that tank (AGAIN!) once and for all and strip that stupid bladder out. I ran back to the house (in the freezing cold) and grab my lawn mower gas. Luckily A neighbor drives by and gives me a ride. We crank it up, gas up and take it for a spin. It feels great. Not as powerful as I hoped but better then before. Last week I finally get garage time with a freind mechanic and he noticed I had my pcv hooked to a port on the intake and it was causing a vacuumn leak and a misfire. He fixed that and set my timing right ( it was only getting 32 at max). I took it for an extended ride this weekend and the car feels great. This is what I was expecting! The crane 278 cam is a little weak on the lower end but it pulls great all the way to and past 6000 rpm. Such a big difference from the last engine that died after 4500 rpm. Here's a desktop dyno of my setup:

One side affect so far my monza tip mufflers were WAY TOO LOUD! so I had to go back to conventional mufflers. Shows you what the difference between a low compression and a high compression motor does to the sound. Can't wait to dragrace it. I hope I get into the 13's this time!

Nice one, good to hear you got it running good So, how many gray hairs did you get while doing it?
Are the Monza tip mufflers the "Y" type ones, or the ones with a box? I've got the "Y" type & they can be a bit on the loud side!

Plenty of grey hairs on this one. Nothing like tearing an engine down for the first time in your life and then having to do it again a week later.

Yep they are the y type. Sounded great on my low compression motor but you had to scream to talk in the cabin afterward . Too bad though they had no resonance that most mufflers had.
