Default HELP: 4spd Removal 72' 454 Tips ??

Well after 32 years the throwout bearing needs replacing.

Could someone outline the steps I need to follow to
removing the transmission from my car.

Any "short cuts" or tricks or inside information is WELCOME

I would like to perform ths task with the minimal amount of
grief

Thank you in advance to anyone who responds ...

Bill

Jack up the car and put jack stands under the frome
Remove the driveshaft
Remove the shifting likeage
remove the bolts from the rear tranny mount
place a support under the bellhousing after you elevate the motor, about an inch
Remove the 4 transmission bolts
Remove the Transmission
Replace the throwout bearing

Oh one more thing, you may have to remove the left header pipe, and don't forget to undo the speedo cable and back up light connection

I agree with GDaina but I think he missed one step.

Between Remove transmission bolts and Remove transmission, you may have to roll the transmission upside down before it will slip out. It requires all of the room you can get and this helps. Jim

I had to do the tranny roll to get it back in - came out fine without doing it...

THANK YOU ALL !!!!

The fun begins today ....

I will keep everyone posted as I go.
I'm going to replace the insulation and tranny collar while
do the bearing. Figured it a good time.

Is there any other maintenance items that can be serviced or
replaced ?

Bill

Bill, it would be agood time to check your battery cable as well. Easy to replace with the tranny out.
