My 73/350 has what I believe to be an external ignition capacitor which attaches to the bracket holding the ignition coil. I originally thought it was an external resistor, but GM tells me the coils for 73 don't have external resistors. Does anyone else with a 73 SB have this attached to their coil? It looks just like a distributor condenser. The wire broke off on mine where it goes into the body. Paragon lists a replacement for a 63-67, but nothing later.
What do you mean by "the points set up"? Do you mean I could use a points condenser? Also, is your capacitor connected to the positive side of the coil?

YES, I WAS REFERRING TO THE POINTS CONDENSER. AND YES IT IS CONNECTED TO THE + SIDE.
I installed the Crane XR i points conversion kit today on my 69 BB. I too am wondering about the coil condenser with this set up. I bought a new Crane coil but did'nt install it because of the condenser on the existing coil. The XR i was easy to install and the car started but that's as far as I got. I left the condenser on the coil until I find out if I need it or not.
It is a capacitor for the radio. Its purpose is to suppress static with the radio. It is not part of the points/ignition system contained in the distributor.
