Default Birdcage rocker replacements?

Anyone use the birdcage replacement pieces for the rockers
and kick up areas? I see from the vendors it looks like you can buy
"reinforcements" or a whole new pieces to weld in. Anyone use either of these and whats the difference? I don't have any holes in my rocker pieces, just alot of rust. It may clean up good enough to POR, not sure yet. Just doing my research here. Thanks.

Default Birdcage Rockers

Not sure about the aftermarket vendors products. I haven't seen them or tried to use them.

I have heard there are problems making them fit correctly.

I bought rocker channels for both sides at a swap meet already cut for my needs.

Included the bottom hinge area in the front and about 4" of the B pillar in the rear.

Paid $75 for each.

The guy had several birdcage parts for sale. Sorry I didn't get his name or contact number.

I would try try to find used ones in decent shape.
That way there are no issues with fit or alignment.

There are channels that are intended to be used as inserts which leaves the rusty metal on the body, there are also replacements which are what I used. Do you have the body off the frame? If the channels are still solid I would try cleaning them up like you said. If they don't clean up, I would not hesitate to replace them.

Yes, the body is off the frame. How hard is it to put in new channels?
I have a cutting wheel and a mig welder.

Search for redwingvette and his website. He has a listing of how he did his. Or maybe contact him about this. But it sounds like your in the right position to replace them now and have the right equipment too.
Just my 2 cents but if the old pieces are questionble now that the body is off is the best timing to do that replacement.
Good luck and post ur results. cardo0
