Default Need help with frame motor mount location

I believe that my frame motor mounts may be bent. When I pulled the motor out of the car I noticed that the passenger side of the motor was lower than the other side of the motor. After I pulled the motor it was clear that there was a difference in height between the two motor mounts. If someone can post a picture of their mounts that could possibly give me an idea of were the motor mounts should be in relation to the frame I would sure appreciate it. Here are some pic’s of my frame mounts. I have uploaded some more pic’s to the forum gallery, they should be cleared by 2-13-05. Sorry for the size but I do not know how to resize the photos.

Thanks Neal

sorry your about three weeks too late for me help on that one...but it almost looks like from those pictures that the drivers side has been welded since it left the factory.... my guess would be that side broke loose and they rewelded with the engine still in the car....

Can't send photos but I just went and put a straight edge accross my frame(motor is out) and I agree that the drivers side is too high. Should be about the same distance down as pass side.

The drivers side has been rewelded. Looks like it was cut off and welded again.

I think the pass side is in the right spot to.

Here is a shot of a level across the motor mounts of my 78 Vette:

Here is the driver's side mount:

Passenger's side mount:

From looking at your pictures, I would have to say that your driver's side may be higher than it should be. My mounts have a slight down slope away from the frame, and the bolt holes are exactly level to each other. Hope this helps!

When you pulled the motor, did the long motor mount bolts just slide out of the mount/frame easily? (They should)

If they didn't, could be a sign of a bent something (mount/frame).

Thanks for the photos. I really would like to see a photo with a longer straight edge extended out over the frame rails. This will give me an idea of the distance between the top of the motor mount and the top of the frame rail.

When I pulled the motor out the bolts lid right out of the frame mount holes no problem there.

Thanks, thats perfect just what I was needing.

All the body lines look good, if something looks wrong latter I will bring it to a frame shop and have it checked. I should be able to repair anything wrong with the frame.

Usually if the frame is twisted (like from a collision) the long bolts on the motormounts (motor mount to frame) will be difficult to remove.

That is why I earlier asked if the bolts were difficult to remove, but it doesn't sound like the frame is twisted.
