no, the angle of the U joints is too much. Although I have done this by supporting the rear under the trailing arms with jack stands to compress the sping and reduce the angle. Still can be dangerous for both you and car...carefull.

But it is okay to jack up the car under the spring, carefully, of course...just not for the purpose you were thinking of!

I would not run my car if it's only on a jack. Jackstands under the frame are a requirement if that engine is to be run.

Its fine. I've done it before, but I had the car on jackstands. Just let the car idle.

What is the noise? Is it perhaps a knocking sound when you make a tight turn at slow speed...?

It sounds like the right rear wheel bearing but it could be a diff. bearing.
My wheels lean in a bit too.

Check if the U-joint bolts hit the differential - that's what mine did when I bought the car ... the rear tires were leaning in because of worn bushings (all bushings) ...

Redbad79... just saw your before and after pics. Wow....you sure brought your vette a long way. Nice work!!! Sounds from your description that your side yokes may have been worn...causing the wheel alignment and U-bolt clearance issue.

Everything was worn, especially the strut rod bushings... and the trailing arms bushings... that was bad enough to allow the wheels to lean inwards at the top - this pushed the half shafts inwards and the U-joint bolts hit the the 'pumpkin'

The yokes got "machined" as well..... ...
