Default add a small rocket engine for better acceleration?

can anyone post the article in March 05 Popular Mechanics, page 121?
could add 1000 to 2000 pounds of thrust, mounted in the spare area. lot of fun at car shows, exhibit drags, wow friends, etc. Not to be the fastest, but

Well, this is interesting.... lets take a realalistic approach..... I use to assemble large scale model rockets, and got my low explosives liscense so i could launch a certain size rocket engine, can't remember what, maybe H or J. Your talking something exponentially larger than that..... 1-2k lbs of thrust is a lot..... you'd be able to launch a lotus elise vertically with that much thrust Now..... say we could get a few hundred pounds of thrust sustained for 8-10 seconds (fairly substantial amount of time), you wouldn't be able to afford doing it using premade components... it would be incredibly expensive. Now your talking making your own solid rocket fuel. Its not all that hard, but requires some hardware for mixing and heating, and you'll need lots of mix........ Ok.... so we've got a rocket engine made, now you need to fire it... You'd probably blow it up, and your car with it. So whats the alternitive..... liquid fueled rockets. Here's one for you, its a good start:
http://www.total.net/~launch/ss67b2.htm This would be much more predictable and safer than the solid propellent. The problem is that for its size its gonna put out less power. The one in the link cost $900 and only sustains 57lbs of thrust for 8.5 seconds..... After reviewing all the options I'd say a 150shot from a holley kit is probably your best shot for going fast.... its your call
I'd try to think of another way of looking cool..... i hear flamethrower are in this time of year

the article says a 5# tank gives 200# thrust and propels a bicycle to 60 in 5 seconds. i was thinking 5 to 10x that could fit under a vette.
Not that I personally would run out and do this, but it appears to be doable by an expert.

Art Arfons and his "Green Mamba" jet powered dragster! I saw it run at Baylands before they closed it. That thing would hit you in the face with a major blast of radiant heat when it took off. The noise and the flames were spectacular! He had to shut it down at half track or he probably would have lifted off! Really cool to see in person.

I've seen it in person. I remember being about 1/2 way down the track, face plastered against the fence. I don't know what was worse, the searing heat, or the sound. I

I think your cheapest way to do this would be to make a trip to the middle east and purchase a scud missle. I think a corvette would look cooler than the car I saw on tv with the missle mounted on top.

THREADHIJACK - ON

Searing heat and sound.

I have the utmost respect for the guys who spend everyday doing this. I only did a couple of times. Much preferred being in the jet.

THREADHIJACK - OFF.

OK, I'll show my age here. There actually was a rocket add on that was sold in the early sixties. I saw an article about it in the past year or two in one of the hot rod mags in the vintage article section. It was called the Turbonique. Here's a couple of sites with some info.

Danger Will Robinson. Too much heat too close to the tank, and fiberglass does ignite as well.

(Just my humble opinion) It would look cool maybe
