Anyone have any good ides or tricks on getting to the area to the right and left of the TA bolts to sand out the rust?
I cant get my hand in there and the wire brush will not fit. It would be nice to find a long extension for the drill and get a little wire wheel, but thats just a fantasy because I've never seen one.
You'll have to take the bolts and trailing arms out.... if you can't get the bolts out (due to rust) it's time for replacement anyway... maybe you're lucky and the TA bushings are still useable.... replacing the bolts and shims is not that hard (if it's not rusted to $hit)
good luck
I'm going to take them out but to get at the rust to the right side of the drivers side TA pocket is impossible to get anything into, its blocked by the brake line bracke. Its got quite a bit of rust scale because it was never sprayed with the stuff someone sprayed on years ago.
Also, what about a long thin chisel with a sharp edge. (A chisel like a dentist uses to chop out your embedded wisdom teeth!) This would allow you to chip out quite a bit of rust. A follow up with a dremels flexible extention shaft and a hand held sand blaster would also be really good (as suggested in the previous two messages.)
One thing I did...the frame pocket where the trailing arm pivot and shims are inserted into...I painted grey. When the pocket is painted black it's hard to look in there even with a flashlight. The grey paint lights up the area and makes it easier to look into.
