I'm almost finished accumulating the stuff I need to rebuild the wiring in my '76 coupe, but so far have had no success finding the hazard switch that mounts in the steering column. The entire switch (not just the ****) is completely missing in my car. Why Bubba? I've looked in all of the usual catalogs and can't find a listing for "hazard switch" or "four-way flasher switch". Am I looking under the wrong name? It seems strange that this switch should be so hard to find when all the other switches seem to be readily available. Am I missing something?
If I'm not mistaken the hazard and turn signal switch are a single unit; ordering a turn signal switch would get you the hazard switch. The hazard button simply activates both sides rather than just one. Jim Shea.....?
The hazard switch is built right into the turn signal switch. I don't think that you can remove the hazard switch part of the turn signal switch. The turn signal switch is the same for all T&T steering columns from 1969 through 1976.
On the T&T column there is a 3.9 inch metal stamping that presses into the plastic hazard switch on the bottom side of the turn signal switch. The stamping has a threaded hole for the hazard **** to screw into (there is a hole in the column housing that matches the threaded hole in the stamping). The stamping pivots down along the side of the column housing.
Wow! Thanks for the information in record time. I hadn't taken the column apart yet since I was trying to make sure that I had everything I needed before starting the job. I'll look more closely and see exactly what's missing. I know that the **** is gone, but perhaps the lever that it should screw into is still present. If it isn't, I will be ordering a new turn signal switch...
I am working on the T\T that I bought from ebay. With a lot of advice from Jim I have been able to determine a lot of things that should be addressed. I have my turn signal switch out now and the hazard peice is integrated into the molding. I really doubt that you would be able to separate these. Also pay real close attention to the stamped peice that Jim mentioned. Don't loose it. Those things are expensive but you can fabricate one as someone did on mine. Take a look at all of Jim's white papers on corvettefaq.com they are of tremendous value when diagnosing and replacing parts especially if they were missing when you got the column\car. Hope this info helps.
