OK another side mirror thread
Didn't wanna hijack the other thread ... but where do you get the install kit?
I've got a NOS mirror but no template or well nuts. The template I'm not worried about - it was suggested to me that I have somebody hold the mirror to the right side door and move it around with me in drivers seat. Makes sense and that way I KNOW it will be in the right spot.
But first, HOW DO YA DRILL HOLES? Will the fiberglass allow centerpunching just as if it was a tin or steel panel? I don't want my drill walking all down the side of the paint job!
Next I want those well nuts! The other thread says that hardware store ones won't work so where to get the right ones?

I would NEVER EVER Centerpunch fiberglass. Your best bet would be to mark the spots with a marker and then use a small drill bit by HAND to create the indentation for the larger bit.
Someone here MUST have a template they can scan for you and e-mail. Or hell just post a link so we all have access.
Check your local Auto Parts stores for the well nuts, sometimes they carry them, Sometimes they don't, it's a little like a crap shoot. Also check Ecklers or Corvette America, they might carry the right ones.

Thats the whole reason that I got new mirrors. The drivers side mirror was droopy and floppy, and besides the chrome was poor.
I got a pair off of Ebay....and replacing the Drivers Side Mirror sure was worth the 50 Bucks! And I'm dying to install the Pass. Side mirror too but unfortunately these cars don't already have one in place to just 'replace.' It's gonna take some effort to get it right.
To make the template, just take off the driver mirror and tape a sheet of paperboard to the door. Mark the leading and top edges of door along with the outline of the mounting plate. Draw a big "L" on it before taking it off the door. Cut it out and then mount it to the passenger door with the "L" facing the paint. That will give you the location of the passenger mounting plate.
As far as walking the bit, use a small pilot drill to start or spin an exacto blade to make a divit.
When drilling fiberglass, I use a "brad point drill bit". It is commonly used in woodworking and won't wander and leaves a clean edge. Buy a cheap set at any hardware store.

Thanks for the suggestions all. Do ya drill with a high speed drill, I.E. my air drill or do ya drill with a low speed machine such as battery powered household drill?
Use a cordless drill. Go slow as the fibreglass is not that thick.
If you want a template IM me your address or email and I will either photocopy or scan my template.
To get the mirror to sit tight on the bracket you need to creat more "interference". I did this by putting in some leftover "zeroclearance" I had. It is just some 1/8" foam/alumium. Stick it in the VEEs of the mirror base, sit it on its mount and then tighten the bolt that holds it all together. If you add a little a time you can see it tighten up more.
The passenger side will not be as tight as the driver side. The driver side has nuts mouted in the door. The passenger side needs to have plugs put in to hold the mirror base. the ones supplied by Paragon were rubber and a little soft. Good news is they shouldn't make your fibreglass crack as they do give a little, bad news is the mirror can never mount as rigid as you would probably like.
Anyway if you want a template email me. It is essentially exactly the same as Gordon says, a mirror image of the location on the drivers door. You get one in the install kit when you buy a mirror from paragon.
