Default Finally got a good ring gear pattern (pics)

I had a used set of 3.70 gears tha thowled during coasting. The drive side was no noise. Itook it apart and could not get a pattern to save my life. Gary (gtr1999) and I talked about this and he said the gears are shot. I finally got all the gears and shims I needed and went to work. I think I finally got a good pattern on both the drive and coast side. The pictures are from 2 different spots on the ring gear.

This should keep everything quiet now.

Gordon I can't remember did you stay with the 3:70's and did you end up using the yukon gears or did you go with another? I'm glad that you got it set up like you wanted it.. Dave...

Gordonm

I've worked at the axle plant in Buffalo Ny and have read gear patterns for awhile. You've got a good pattern (center favoring toe on the drive side and pretty much center/center on the coast) going for you. It's what I'd be looking for in a well built, quiet rear end. Good job!

Thanks for the good info. This is the second rear I have set up. The first one is still going strong. This one should be good to go now with no noise.

At least someone can see my pictures.

I don't know why. They are hosted by Village photo. Some can see them others can't. I have used them on many other pictures and never had a problem. They are coming up fine for me. If you really want to see them I can email them.

They look fine to me.
This is one thing I should really do on my car. Pretty far down on the list though.

What's the yellow marking compound??

It is GM Gear marking compound. Works great. The pattern really shows up nice with it.
