Does anyone know if the Ultralite series lights up? Is it back lit or side lit?
thanks

Yes, they light up and they come with red and green bulb covers. The bulb mounts through the back of the housing if that's what you are asking.

They are back lit, I have them in my car. The only ones that "light Up" are the Cobalt series if I'm not mistaken.

Yes back lit...and not very well lit at that. I don't think these were really made to be visible in the dark

Check your dimmer switch TT. I can see mine just fine (and it's mounted on the cowl, under the hood scoop).

Well I can see the gauge fine but it's not nice uniformly lit like most modern gauges

Man, we are all going to look alike. I just bought a Autolite fuel pressure gauge off of LS1tech last night. I'm thinking about changing mine all out to or cowl mounting them.

The Cobalts are lighted with blue LED. It is very striking, if not a little too bright. The C-2's are lit with LED only it is white faced and the whole face turns blue and the characters stay black. The only drawback is that you can't dim them. They either are on or off.

Buddy: I have the electric oil pressure gauge. I didn't really trust the 35 year old mechanical one, so I added a second. Eventually I think I'll replace all of the gauges inside. Mine hides under the scoop of the L88 hood, so you can't see it from outside the car. I like the stealthy-ness of it. (Is stealthy-ness a word??)

TT: Yeah, I guess it's not completely uniform light. But have you seen the prices on the Cobalts? I wanted to do my whole dash in those when I first saw them... then I saw the price tag!!

Are the cobalts much more expensive than the ultra lites? I have 9 small ones and a big tach & speedo, the small ones are all full sweep and cost an arm and a leg.

I'm just going to make the switch and change all mine out to Pro-Comp ultra lites.

Speedo
Tach
Oil pressure
gas
fuel pressure
temp
Air/fuel ratio
I probably will need to put one in the pillar or lose one.

What do you do for turn indicators? Little LED lights.

who me? I don't have it finished yet but I will be using simple indicator lights. Same for brake warning, hi beam and some other stuff.

I've got:
tach
speedo
oil pressure
oil temp
fuel pressure
fuel level
water pressure
water temp
EGT
trans temp
boost/vac

and maybe I'm going to install a diff temp one also.

TT Yes, the Cobalts are more expensive. For example:
Cobalt Electric Oil Pressure gauge: $199.
Ultralite Electric Oil Pressure gauge: $53.95

I converted all my gauges to pro-comp ultra lights and theyare all in the original housing. For turn indicatiors and brights I fabed up some LED's.

Looks like the full sweep Ultralite is the same price as the full sweep cobalt.

Looks like I will go the ultralite route. Cheaper, and they actually have a 5" speedo and tach whereas the Cobalts do not.
