Battery Orientation in '69 L46

Battery Orientation in '69 L46
My L46's side-post battery is positioned with the cables attaching at the front of the battery box vs. at the rear side of the box on my L48.
1) - Didn't this car come with a top-post battery?
Am wondering if, in order to install a battery hold down, I am going to have to both rotate the battery AND invest in longer cables... Right now, the battery is not fixed in place and it definitely moves around when I'm driving. It is most noticed around bumpy corners (I'm hoping it isn't the dreaded differential clutches grabbing around corners that I am actually hearing).
Oh, the joys of owning a 36 year old classic!
Wouldn't trade it for anything.

68 to early 69s came with top post batteries with spring ring clamp terminals. Late 69-72s had side terminal. Cables attached at the rear of the battery.
