Looks like you're making some good progress George. I have a question about your head studs, do you have a brake booster in your vette, and will you be able to pull the head in the car if you do? I hope you used the rubber Viton valve seals and didn't go with teflon like I did, my heads are in the shop now getting the rubber vitons installed.

Can't wait to hear how the 427 compares to your 383

That almost brings a tear to my eye. what kind of oil pan is that? Does it have the studded scraper or one built into the pan? What kind of paint is that on the block? Looks awesome.

Hmmmm...he claims "427 Motown In!!!!!"...and yet I see only images of a motor on a stand ...

On the other hand, I have no problem believing the claim of beer drinking. HA!

The paint is POR-15 aluminum.

Motown blocks can't use a stock chevy pan. This has the adustable crank throw scrapers with baffles and traps and it's 8 quart with filter.

Smoked tires - this is my third studded motor in the vette and I've never had problems pullint the heads in the car.

Not a good picture, but you can see the 12 point head stud nut below the 7-up can. The can is leaning against the brake booster.

Dale - I didn't do anything on it all day Sunday. So if it doesn't run latter on this afternoon it has to wait another week because i'm flying to Key West Tuesday for six days of fishing and diving.

It doesn't really matter. It's still winter here frost most every night, and it's raining now. All the snow is about melted except were it got piled up. November to early April is park the vette time. You might have a few nice sunny days, but without a heater it's not worth it to me.

Well after a two week break in the action do to vacation I'm at it again.

I'm so glad that I use ARP 5/16th universal headers studs.

Header time - These monster wood blocks work great for moving around under the car.

Mini starter still doing great after 4 years and now the third motor - I had to install new SFI Flex because they expire every two years. The 9.5 inch Torque convertor was 3500 stall for my 383 so it might be closer to 3800 stall now.

GKULL, what size blocks are those under your tires?
I bet your reply to the difference in the 383 to 427 will be awesome.

The wood blocks are @ 11X11 trim ends from freeway bridge construction. They must weight 40+ pounds each.

I had a buddy drop them off 4-5 years ago. The only problem is I have to put a 4X4 block on my 2 ton floor jack to be able to lift the car high enough to put them under the tires.

This was just taken 5 minutes ago. My bud is coming over with the morroso dist depth gauge and pre oiler. Then it's set the ignition and final valve set, add fluids/hoses

I always put Permatex high temp red silicone on the exhaust stud nuts so they never move once tightened - you could do the same thing to bolts. It never burns away!, and ready to fire.

High temp silicone is still flexible isn't it?

Looks like 11" isn't quite enough for those 2.5 beer can rear tires It would lower it a little, but it would be cool to cut U-grooves in those blocks so the car could not roll. Just a thought

Lookin good.

Flexible - Yes, but it's like glue. The studs are locktighted into the heads and now the nuts can't rotate. I use the FelPro blue steel impregnated gaskets. year after year and motor after motor. No signs of leak from last years motor.
