Help !!! Trying to service the rear wheel park brake shoes. Neither of the discs had the rivets in them. Backed off the shoes as much as possible. One side came off with a little persuation. The other side will not budge. I need advice ( read ready to pull car outside and torch ) . What can I do to get this rear disc off ? Thanx Brent
Sounds like it's rusted on. If your sure all the rivits are out....use a soft mallet (leather, rubber) Tap outward in the area where the caliper was...as you spin the rotor. Carefull of that dust shield!!

beat the crap out of it. you ain't gonna hurt its feelings.
I pulled my driver side trailing arm off today. In order do that I had to remove the rear rotor. Would not budge, so I hit it with my heavy weight hammer. Still took about 5 minutes but I won. You need to hit it hard while rotating the rotor. May also want to spray some WD-40 on it. In my case, I'm replacing the rotors, so I could take my frustration out on it.
I have tried the beating with a heavy hammer. I tried prying with 2 screwdrivers whilst turning rotor and beating with a hammer. Now just letting it soak with penetrant. Car won round 1 , I will rest up for round 2 tommorrow. Brent
You think it's tough getting that parking break off? Wait till you try to put it back on.....
Sorry...but I just can't seem to comprehend the difficulty factor in changing/servicing the parking brake that everyone complains about. I've done a complete component install/removal twice. Once on the car...and once on a bench with the t-arm removed. Patience, a few tricks, more patience...and taa-daa!! I found that removing/installing the drivers dash pad, vacuum brake booster & headlight doors were WORSE!! then then

My bewilderment comes with the fact that the drivers side , the last installer did not even line the holes up so we could let the shoes release. On that side the disc pretty well fell off. Passengers side we were able to release the brake shoes but " NO RELEASE " calm down and try tommorrow !!!! Brent
