I am running 17x8.5's and 17x9.5's with no alteration to the car other than wheel adapters and cut front springs to lower it.

I also ran a number of mounts past my engineering class and asked them to predict cyles and weaknesses and they convinced me on one design that it would fail eventually.
Finally I put no mount in shear, everything is tension and compression. NOthing in shear, nothing that gets pealed off with high initial loading.
Spread loads out over area.
No it was not easy
To me the front went in the first time but alot of cutting/welding/fabricating.

Done right it is not easy and takes alot of fabricating skills.
Better be good with a welder.

The issue is not the tires but the rim. A 10 inch rim does not fit in our fenderwells unless you have lots of backspacing and that is the problem.
I have had test rims in 10 inch by 18 with 5 inch backspacing, no tires and that rim doesn't fit under our cars.
Forget tires, center the rim that is in under the fender lip.
I also reduced my lip to 1/2 it's original thickness for more clearance.
Remove the hanger bolt and check all range of motion.
I have 6 1/2 inch backspacing and that is absolute maximum even with a modified frame.
That does put a 10 inch rim inside the outer fender .

No problem with the welder & fabricating. Our group here is sort of like Monster Garage, Rides, & Overhaulin' all rolled into one.

So, exactly where did U mount the coil overs in the rear? The same location as where the shocks mount? I didn't think there was enough room to put them there. Do U have any pics of your rear set up that you'd be willing to share? Just trying to get some ideas from someone who has done this set up.

We're also toying around with the possibility of "bagging" the rear. The only obstical is getting the tires not to "scrub" as the car lowers. Electric powered assisted "smart struts" are a possibility. I'm looking into that.

Whenever you lower the car, you have to increase the spring rate to prevent the car from bottoming out. This reduces ride quality.

There is about 4 1/2 inches between the boxes and the swing arm and a coil over is 4 inches OD so it fits if center properly.
My upper mount is in the stock location only I plated the frame to spread the load and made a new mount out of solid steel.
The lower mount is straight down and attached to the side of the swingarm with a properly designed mount.
Sorry for the large picture

Hey, Thanks much for taking the time & trouble showing me you rear coil overs. Now that I know they can be placed there, I can take it from there. Thank again

I'm running 235/55R/17's in the front & 245/50R/17's in the rear. I'm running Dunlops......they're the only brand available that have the sizes I needed that matched front & rear. The rest of the brands, either had one or the other, but not both.

What year is yours?
My vette is a 74R the tires are nitto nt450 extreme...john

The advice I give everybody going for aftermarket wheels is:

Shop for the tires you want and then buy the wheels to fit them. I have 17X9 fronts and I'm thinking about 18X13 rear wheels for 345 width rears at 27 inch dia.

One inch shorter springs lower my front end @1.5 inches.

Im pretty well set on doing 18" rims all the way around, 9s in the front and apparentally now 9s on the back. With 18x9's on the back, with offset trailing arms, would lowering it out be a problem at all? If not would going with a maximum width tire make up for some of the traction loss from stepping down from the 10s?
