Body to wheel clearance
It has a really bad gassy odor after I have driven it for a while and put into the garage. I can't close the door for the Ist hour because of the smell.
First measure from the ground to a point on the frame, preferrably close to the suspension (front & rear). Using the same frame location on both sides compare the measurements. If the measurements left to right are within a quarter inch of each other, then the problem is with the body and how it is mounted to the frame. If you find that the difference is closer to the inch you are measuring at the fender then the problem is in your frame or suspension.
If it's a body issue, I would look carefully at your body mounts. The # 2 & 3 are harder to check, but the # 1 & 4 are pretty easy to check. #2 requires removal of the kick panel and #3 requires removal of the little inspection panel in the front of the rear wheel well. Look for rust and obvious differences from the left to right sides of the car. You can also try some measurements between the body and like points on the frame close to the body mount locations to see how much of a difference exists between the left side and right sides. The points you use to reference are only important in that you use the same points on both sides. Again differences in these measurements should reveal where the problem is.
If the problem points to the frame or suspension, look things over carefully for obvious differences in the left side and right side that can be a result of damage or worn bushings. If both sides appear similar, I would measure the compressed length of the front springs first. You should see a marked difference in the compressed length of the springs, more than a quarter inch. The rear spring is a bit more difficult to verify, but again there should be a difference (left & right) close to the inch you are measuring at the fender. If you find the major difference is in the compressed length of the springs, you're gonna need new ones.
Take some measurements and let us know what you find. Good luck.

1) your idle bleed down could be leaking. This is caused mostly by 2 much fuel line pressure.
2) your floats could be set just a little bit too high or dirt in your needle & seat, causing the venturies to slightly leak gas.
One thing, if U let the car sit for about a half hour & then try to start it, is it hard starting?
Another thing about Holley's: If it's an older version carb & has never been rebuilt, then there's a good chance that the gaskets have 'shrank' & there could actually be gas getting past the main body to throttle body. All of the newer Holley's have srink proof gaskets & this isn't really a problem for them.
