Default Required emissions on a 78

I recently inherited a 78 L-82 and need to get it registered in Arizona. The engine has pretty much been stripped down to its bare necessities (no air pump, no vapor canister).

Does anyone know what equipment I will have to reinstall in order to pass emissions in Arizona?

Your L82 would have been equipped with smog pump and related parts, diverter valve, EGR valve, air cleaner with THERMAC, EFE or early fuel evaporation (actuator and thermal switch mounted to top of thermostat housing) and maybe another item or two I don't recall off hand.

Check and see it you have a canister under the driver's side fender...it will have hoses that go to carb and manifold and route back to the tank...it captures fuel vapors.

Under the car you would have a catalytic converter...not "true" dual exhaust.

Check with your local inspection station as to requirements. Hopefully you can get by with a high-flow catalytic converter. To return to stock is very expensive. Even if you can get the parts and know where the hoses go!!

Arizona is a bad state for emissions. 1967 and later if you live or work in the major cities.

I've got a high flow cat and they didn't say anything. Of course I'm not sure that they know what a stock 82 vette cat looks like.

At the least you will have to pass idle and a run on the roller machine at constant speed. My 81 has to pass the simulated driving test on the rollers. I don't know exactly what year the force that.

You will have to pass a visual and vapor check also. If the vapor canister is not there or the lines leak (or the gas cap) you'll need to repair/replace it.

I don't think you'll get past without a smog pump, egr, and associated plumbing.

Can you post a pic of the engine compartment? If you don't have one, you should get the "Chevrolet Corvette shop manual" fro your specific year. They're a little pricey, but worth it.

The small list:
Smog pump diverter valve
catalytic converter
tube from pump to cat
vapor canistor and all the rubber hoses.
EGR valve

I don't recall if 78 had air injection at the exhaust manifolds or not. If the engine has been stripped of emissions equipment try to find someone on the forum that has a 78 or equivalent that is planning to strip it for performance, and make them a deal. This stuff can get expensive.

The other option is to registar out of the emissions zone, if you know someone out there.
