ED T has some really nice pics to show ya. Anyway you need a long screw driver. Roll down your window, and trying locking the door from the outside while looking down in the door, you'll see the locking mechanisim.
90% of the time it's old gunk and dirt than messes this up, spray some wd-40 and it will work fine. I had the same problem.
